Penlee Lifeboat Blessing 2025
Join us for this year's RNLI Penlee Lifeboat blessing and open air service, recorded at Mousehole Harbour on Sunday 10 August 2025.
This annual tradition not only honours current volunteers who risk their lives to save others but also confirms the bond between the lifeboat station and the Mousehole community.
Penlee's Severn Class Lifeboat 'Ivan Ellen’ and the B class Atlantic 85 ‘Mollie and Ivor Dent’ and their volunteer crews arrived in the gaps at the harbour.
The evening in a setting sun was enhanced with the performance of Mousehole Male Voice Choir led by Musical Director Stephen Lawry, accompanied by Annette Turton.
An important part of this service is to remember those who sadly perished on the Solomon Browne during the call out to the coaster Union Star. As part of the service Janet Madron solemnly read out their names while long-serving Penlee volunteer Nabo Nicholls rang the bell each time.
Those brave RNLI volunteers were: Coxswain William Trevelyan Richards, Second Coxswain and Mechanic James Madron, Assistant Mechanic Nigel Brockman, Emergency Mechanic John Blewett, Crew Member Charles Greenhaugh, Crew Member Kevin Smith, Crew Member Barrie Torrie, Crew Member Gary Wallis.
Revd Derath Durkin, takes the helm from the deck of the lifeboat, thanking the crowd that made the evening so special, the Mousehole Harbour Commissioners who made the evening possible, Chris Cass for the audio and praised the RNLI volunteers for their selfless actions.
