Man, 40, arrested over Truro property fire

Story update 6pm: The arrested man has been released under investigation.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent following a fire at several properties in Truro on Wednesday.

Sixty firefighters spent three hours extinguishing the blaze at Merrifield Close at 12.20am on 13 June.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, which occured across several joint properties. All residents have been rehoused.

An investigation is currently underway into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

A scene guard was put in place whilst fire investigators and scenes of crime officers carried out further enquiries. The scene guard has now been lifted.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “A 40-year-old man from Truro was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

“We are currently appealing for witnesses to the incident, anyone with information is asked to contact us via 101 quoting crime reference CR/051662/18."
